Valerio Chiovarelli was born in Chieri (TO) in 1982. He studied accordion with Maestro Michele Bevilacqua then he began his classical studies (composition) with Maestro Guido Donati and graduated in tuba in 2021 at the G. Verdi Conservatory in Turin with Maestro Rino Ghiretti.

Participant in many festivals such as: Vincoli Sonori – musica klezmer & gypsy (edizioni 2000, 2001,2002 di Torino e Pinerolo), San Pietro in Vincoli, Rassegna Campo Sonoro.
Member of the chamber formation of Torino Jazz Orchestra in « The birth of the cool today » project, he participated in the : Due Laghi Jazz Festival 2007 – Avigliana (TO), Altitude Jazz Festival Briançon 2008, La Riviera dei teatri di Pietra Ligure (SV) 2008 festivals, accompanying artists such as Lee Konitz, Dave Glasser, Dusko Gojkovic and Gianni Basso.
He participated in duo with Fulvio Chiara (trumpet) to the international festival Moncalieri Jazz in the years 2010, 2011 and 2012
He collaborates with the big bang conducted by pianist Riccardo Zegna playing the tuba and participated with this formation in many jazz festivals such as Clusone Jazz 2011 accompanying Paul Jeffrey, Pietro Tonolo and Giampaolo Casati among others.
In 2010 he participated with Fulvio Chiara in the third edition of the “Premio Lauzi” award in Anacapri winning second place.
In 2014 he participated to the Piossasco Jazz Festival in the quartet “Enquat Jass Band” with Fabrizio Bosso.
He also played with many famous artists on the national and international scene including: Claudio Chiara, Fulvio Chiara, Fulvio Albano, Domenico Torta, Mario Piovano, Marcel Azzola, Stefano Calcagno, Riccardo Zegna, Fabio Gorlier, Pietro Tonolo, Walter Calafiore, Stefano Profeta, Vittorio Sicbaldi, Mauro Battisti, Gianpaolo Casati, Renata Tosi, Alessandro Minetto, Paolo Dutto, Lee Konitz, Dusko Gojkovic, Paul Jeffrey, Dave Glasser, Fabrizio Bosso etc.
Creator and founder of the formation “D’Accordeon Quintet” recalling the typical sonorities of French “chansons”
He participated in the Torino Jazz Festival and the Piacenza Jazz Festival in 2013 playing tuba in a young musicians ensemble engaged in the revival and reinterpretation of the original afro-american repertoires of Dixieland and New Orleans styles.
Invited in 2016 by the Italian Embassy in Ankara to represent Italy in the Italian Republic Day celebrations.
He recorded the original compositions by Fulvio Chiara as accordionist and tuba player for the animation department of the “Scuola cinematografica di Roma” (Rome Film School).
In 2016 he recorded an album with the French accordionist Marcel Azzola.
In 2014 – 2015 he collaborated with the famous singer-songwriter Paolo Conte in the realization of his album “Snob” as tuba player.
Since many years he is a member of “I Musicanti di Riva presso Chieri” with whom he participated in many radio and television shows on private and national broadcasters, high -profile festivals such as “Ande Bali e Cante” – Rovigo 2004, Dalle Alpi ai Pirenei – Trento 2005, Ande Bali e Cante – Fratta Polesine 2005, Festival dell’oralità – Torino 2008, Maggio fuori porta – Parco della Musica – ROMA 2008; and prestigious cultural events in Italy, Spain and Egypt such as: Wake For The Earth – Traditional Italian Egyptian Performance 2008 (Small Theatre, Biblioteca di Alessandria and Amir Taz Palace – Cairo). They performed in major theatres in Piedmont (Sociale d’Alba (Alba – CN), Carignano (Torino), Toselli (Cuneo) and Teatro Regio di Torino) staging theatrical performances.
He has been collaborating for some years with the research group of the cultural association “La froja” contributing together with Domenico Torta, the municipality of Riva presso Chieri and Professor Febo Guizzi, (Full Professor of Ethno-musicology at the Università degli Studi di Torino (DAMS)) to the creation of the civic museum “Museo del Paesaggio Sonoro di Riva presso Chieri”.
In 2020 he was awarded the first prize in the Jazz category of the international prize “ Premio Internazionale di Fisarmonica della Città di Castelfidardo”.
